Parallax questions the ways in which we experience a space and orient ourselves by using our eyes and our ears to probe spatial characteristics such as shape, size, and acoustics. The installation subtly disrupts the interrelation between these elements, creating an almost physical effect of disorientation and catching the visitor off balance. The images, showing details of architectural constructions, are superimposed and continuously create new compositions; the point of view keeps shifting while the images slowly transform. Every video and audio composition is unique, forming one, changing piece within the space. The projections are placed in such a way that it is not possible for the audience to see them all at the same time, instigating them to wander through the space.
The installation premiered during the 2002 graduation show of Piet Zwart Institute in Rotterdam. In 2004 the installation was shown in the group exhibition Oponthoud / Delay at Museum Boijmans van Beuningen.
